چکیده

Is anything new in functional testing? There have been many attempts to refine psychophysical and electrophysiological techniques over the last 20 years to enable earlier detection and/or possibly provide an objective means for monitoring function. While a few techniques survive in clinical practice, there has generally not been any major breakthroughs in recent times in the functional testing area. Standard automated perimetry (SAP) with white on white stimulus still remains the gold standard despite all its well known limitations.

Psychophysical and electrophysiological testing in ocular hypertension.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to compare psychophysical and electrophysiological testings in early optic nerve dysfunction in a group of clinically asymptomatic subjects with suspect ocular hypertension (OHT). METHODS Forty eyes of 40 patients with suspect OHT and asymmetrical horizontal cup/disc ratio (0.2/0.4), 22 eyes of 22 patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG), and 40 eyes of 40...

Shift of Equiluminance in Congenital Color Vision Deficiencies: Pattern-ERG, VEP and Psychophysical Findings

We compared electrophysiological responses [pattern-ERG (PERG) and VEP] and psychophysical measures to color stimuli to separate different forms of anomalous color vision. PERG and VEP were recorded from seven normals and 14 subjects with congenital color vision deficiencies. Stimuli were color checkerboards with 0.5 deg check size, phase reversing at 34 rev/sec. The luminances of the red and g...

I-36: Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis - Where Have We Been and Where Are We Going

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is now considered routine in IVF laboratories with micromanipulation capability and access to genetic diagnostic services. The past two decades have witnessed a dramatic increase in the use of PGD, the number of cycles performed, and the indications for which PGD has been used. This increase has been mirrored by a slow, but steady, increase in the range o...

Neural conduction in visual pathways in newly-diagnosed IDDM patients.

OBJECTIVES Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) show abnormal responses in newly-diagnosed insulin-dependent diabetic (IDDM) patients. Electrophysiological methods allow one to dissect and explore different structures contributing to neural conduction in the visual pathways. The aim of our work was to assess whether the VEP abnormalities are due to impaired function of the retinal layers and/or a de...
